Why Choose 100% Premium All-Natural Soy Candles?

  1. Madison Valley Candles’ 100% premium soy candles are all natural because they’re made only from soybean-based vegetable oil. They are never blended with beeswax or other waxes, and are scented only with pure essential oils instead of common, sometimes toxic chemical fragrances. That’s why we can call them a 100% all-natural soy candle. Our candles are also USDA certified organic, kosher and vegan. On the other hand, paraffin candles are made from a base of petroleum oil which is bad for humans, pets and the environment.
  2. Our premium soy candles will burn longerthan regular candles. Therefore, even though soy wax candles may sometimes be a bit more expensive to buy, they are still more cost-effective then quick-burning candles made with paraffin wax.
  3. Our 100% all-natural soy candles burn cleaner than paraffin candles. As a result, they don’t produce much black soot. Candle soot from petroleum-based paraffin wax is more of a nuisance than you might realize. If you burn a lot of non-soy candles, over time the soot can discolor your walls & furniture and even stain the edges of your carpet.
  4. Madison Valley Candles’ premium all-natural soy candles are non-toxic since they are made of vegetable oil derived from soybeans and pure essential oils. They have a lower melting point than paraffin-based candles (so the wax itself doesn’t get as hot), produce negligible amounts of soot, and never release harmful chemicals into the air. Madison Valley Candles 100% premium soy candles are cleaner for people, pets and the environment.
  5. Our 100% all natural premium soy candles are easy to clean up after. If you happen to spill candle wax, you can simply use dish soap and warm water to clean up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I burn my 100% all natural soy candles?

It's good to be concerned about the length of time soy candles should be burned. You may not know that candles made from 100% soy wax has a ‘memory’ and should be allowed to achieve a full melt pool on its very first burn. If your candle is extinguished prior to allowing a full melt pool being achieved, all subsequent melt pools will not go past the first one.

To create a full melt pool, burn the candle for a minimum of one (1) hour for every inch of its diameter. All future burns should follow the first one's path and melt fully to the sides of the container. And depending on the diameter of the container, those future burns should be no longer than four (4) hours. Just follow the rule for creating a melt pool to calculate the length of time a candle can burn safely.

How should I properly care for my Madison Valley soy candles?

It’s important to always remember to trim the wick prior to burning. As with wicks on any candle, the carbon build-up can eventually fall into the melt pool and sink to the bottom. Allowing this to happen is not proper candle care and may cause a fire hazard. This concern can be eliminated by always keeping candlewicks trimmed to ¼ inch.

Why are my Madison Valley 100% soy candles leaving wax on the sides of the container?

If your soy candles are burning straight down the center, creating a tunnel, it means that they were not allowed to achieve a full melt pool on their first burn. All-natural soy wax has a ‘memory.’ If soy candles are extinguished prior to allowing a full melt pool; all subsequent melt pools will not go past the first one.

To leave the least amount of wax on the sides of the container, go for the full melt pool on the first burn. Just remember to burn the candle for a minimum of one (1) hour for every inch of its diameter to create a complete melt pool. All future burns should follow the first one's path.

Why is there is oil on top of my premium, all natural soy candles?

Since soy wax has a lower melting point than traditional paraffin wax, it can release excess essential fragrance oils which it cannot hold. This is usually due to extreme temperature changes due to shipping (i.e. going from hot trucks to an air-conditioned environment or going from cold trucks in the winter to heated stores). It can also be caused by the scent ‘sweating’ out of the soy candles.

We have found that 100% soy wax does not mix well with the high concentrations of pure essential oils we use to create our strongly scented candles. That means our scented soy candle jars are more likely to sweat when warmed during shipping. No worries thought; this is just the fragrance oils coming to the surface.

You can either leave the oil or wipe it out with a tissue or paper towel. Sweat from Madison Valley Candles’ all natural soy candles does not affect the burn quality.  Generally, the sweat drops of oil will not show up again after your first burn.

For optimum performance of our premium soy candles, please store them in a cool area out of in-direct and direct sunlight.

Why do my 100% all natural soy candles look frosty? Are they drying out?

Good news! Your soy candles will never dry out. Frosting is a natural characteristic that’s unique to pure soy candles. It's part of the soy experience! Often times the frosting of a soy candle is called the "bloom," and it’s not a flaw. Many customers actually become concerned if there is no frosting on their soy candles. It is a way that you can always tell if your candle is really made with pure, all-natural soy wax.

What causes the white marks on my soy candles?

Occasionally, white marks may appear on all natural soy candles due to the nature of the soy wax. The tiny, white looking crystals on the tops and sides of jars are called frosting and are very similar to the frosted look on chocolate. This is a natural characteristic of soy wax is not a flaw. Frosting does not affect the quality, scent or burn time of the candle.

After burning, the wicks on my premium soy candles have a mushroom-type head on them. Is this bad?

A mushroom-type head that forms on burning wick is a build-up of carbon. Certain wicks tend produce this effect, especially when the candle is richly scented. Usually, if  mushrooming-type wicks are used, there is a greater benefit to the soy candles overall, such as a longer burning time.

Important Safety Tips for Your Premium Soy Candles

  • When burning your soy candles, always keep them within sight. Make sure to extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep.
  • Never burn your all natural Madison Valley soy candles on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
  • Trim the wicks of your premium soy candles to 1/4 inch each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks cause uneven burning and dripping.
  • Always use a candleholder specifically designed for candle use. The holder should be heat resistant, sturdy and large enough to contain any drips or melted wax. Be sure the candleholder is placed on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep your burning soy candles away from drafts, vents and air currents, including those caused by ceiling fans and air conditioning units. This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, smoking and excessive dripping. Drafts can also blow lightweight curtains or papers into the flame where they could catch fire.
  • Always burn your all natural premium soy candles in a well-ventilated room.
  • Extinguish the flame of your soy candles if they come too close to the holder or container they’re in. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 2 inches of wax remains (1/2-inch if it’s in a container). This will also help prevent possible heat damage to the surface the candle is sitting on and prevent glass containers from cracking or breaking.
  • Never touch or move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.
  • Your Madison Valley Candles should be placed at least three inches apart from one another. This is to be sure they don't melt on one another or create their own drafts that will cause the soy candles to burn improperly.
  • One of the safest ways to extinguish all natural soy candles is to use a candle snuffer (available from our accessories page), which helps prevent hot wax from spattering.
  • When blowing out your premium soy candles, hold your index finger in front of the flame and blow at it. Air will flow around your finger, extinguish the candle from both sides, and prevent hot wax from splattering.
